Retired NFL great Jerry Rice will be honored at the 25th annual Circle City Classic Oct. 4 in Indianapolis, where Tuskegee will meet Alabama A&M.

Rice, who played his college football at Mississippi Valley State University before going on to fame in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders, will be receiving the prestigious Major Taylor Award. The game will be played at the brand new Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis.

In the very first Circle City Classic, Rice caught the eye of the nation, leading Mississippi Valley to a 48-36 victory over Grambling by catching eight passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns.

He was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.

“It is an extreme honor to have someone the caliber of Jerry Rice return to the Circle City Classic,” said Indiana Black Expo President and CEO Tanya Bell.

“It’s truly a blessing to have him return to celebrate the 25th anniversary with us in the new Lucas Oil Stadium.”
