The family of Wilfredo Gines hopes a $3,000 reward offered by an anti-violence organization will bring whomever is responsible to justice for the death of the father of three, including two grandchildren of Ald. JoAnn Thompson (16th). Gines’ body was found in his SUV in Hammond, Ind. one day after his family reported him missing on Aug. 21. He went to south suburban Chicago Heights to retrieve tools he loaned to two acquaintances. Alarm grew when he never returned to his Southwest Side home in the 6100 block of South Rockwell Street, sparking the alderman to ask for the public’s help in locating the father of her granddaughters Jessica, 13, and Jerrika, 10. Gines also has a 1-year-old daughter by his wife. The Hammond Police Department said the 31-year-old died of blunt force trauma to the head. The two men he went to see were questioned by the police but not charged in connection with his disappearance or death. Anyone with information is urged to call Hammond Police Department, 219-853-6490. ______ Copyright 2009 Chicago Defender. All rights reserved.
