METROPOLIS, Ill. — Authorities in southern Illinois’ Massac County say they believe they’ve found the remains of an 84-year-old man who went missing 10 months ago. The discovery came Tuesday evening, when a boy retrieving an arrow he had shot found a bone authorities believe belongs to one of his relatives, Charles Harris. The bone was found not far from Harris’ Karnak home. Family members say Harris had Alzheimer’s and likely wandered into the field last August between his house and where the remains were found. An investigator says the remains were overlooked in an earlier search because the area had been a thick corn field, and that a combine later pulled and scattered the remains through the field. Genetic testing is planned to make sure the bones are Harris’. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
