Four friends and visionary leaders formed a partnership with Alpha Prime Racing. The mission: redefine motorsports by making it more inclusive, representative and connected to the communities it serves.
Last Saturday (July 5), Redline Motorsports made its highly anticipated debut on the Chicago Street Course, showcasing the light blue Nerds Xpress Chevrolet in front of a passionate home crowd.
Founded in March 2025 by four friends from Chicago, the team partnered with Alpha Prime Racing and driver Brad Perez. Each Redline Motorsports partner brings a distinct set of skills and perspectives to the team. Tristan Sumpter, an IT sales technologist and real estate entrepreneur, blends technical expertise with sharp business acumen.
Rev. Dr. Aaron J. McLeod, Esq., a prominent attorney in the Chicagoland area, also serves as a pastor at a progressive church in Evanston, Illinois, bringing a spirit of compassion and community to the team. Larry Smith, an entrepreneur and owner of a transportation company, brings essential industry insight. At the same time, Brett Fickes, an educator with over 36 years of experience, serves as CEO of Universal Dental Clinics and has been an administrator at Thornton Township High School District 205 since 2007. Brett is also the president of Learning Forward Illinois, where he champions professional development in education.
Alongside NFL star Za’Darius Smith, the team’s dynamic leadership is focused on creating opportunities and fostering growth within the community, while also striving for success on the NASCAR track.
With plans to launch a full-time campaign in a NASCAR National Series in 2026, the team is deeply committed to diversifying the sport, breaking barriers and approaching this through a combination of competitive racing, cultural representation and community upliftment.

Redline is also committed to celebrating Chicago’s vibrant culture and shining a spotlight on local businesses such as Nerds Xpress, an IT company led by Dustin Barlow, and Universal Dental Clinics, founded by Dr. Ahmed Ramaha. The team is also backing their driver, Perez, a 27-year-old, working-class, first-generation racer of Puerto Rican and Dominican heritage. Perez, they say, brings passion and determination to the track, competing with both heart and a focus on health.
A Name with Purpose
The name “Redline” carries deep historical and social meaning. It references the discriminatory real estate practice of redlining, which once segregated Chicago neighborhoods along racial lines. Redline Motorsports seeks to reclaim and transform that legacy into one of unity, inclusion and empowerment. They want to show that NASCAR is for everyone.
The name also pays tribute to the bravery of firefighters, who cross red lines in the line of duty to protect their communities.
Symbolism in Speed: Racing Numbers with Meaning

Redline currently races under the number 45, but in 2026, the team will shift to number 55, a powerful tribute to the year 1955, when Rosa Parks made her historic stand against segregation and Emmett Till, a Chicago teenager, was brutally murdered in Mississippi.
The number honors the pain and courage of that pivotal year, symbolizing Redline’s commitment to justice and remembrance.
With its blend of social impact, cultural recognition and high-octane racing, Redline Motosports is poised to leave a lasting mark on NASCAR and beyond.
