Only Tiffany “New York” Pollard, 26, can turn several televised heartbreaks into something fabulous. Right now the VH1 reality television drama queen is putting all boys aside to invest more time in her career as an actress.
She wants to take on Hollywood to fulfill her dreams of stardom. The star made her very first trip to Chicago while on this crusade. She made her live theater debut in Bernard Productions and StaPhocus Productions dramady, Relationship Games, at the Arie Crown theatre earlier this month.
“I never saw it coming, but I always wanted to act. I always wanted my shot, my moment and it just came,” she told the Defender. “I keep working, and year after year it’s more stuff coming, and I am like ‘wow’ you know!” Pollard originally promised to keep “New York” in the background as she played the feisty Jacqueline, a character with a lot of man trouble and venom. Still, the beauty and the beast managed to come out in her too hot to handle performance.
The party girl who also calls herself the H.B.I.C. (Head B—- In Charge) started out as one of many women competing to reign in hip hop artist Flavor Flav’s palace as his queen on the first two seasons of Flavor of Love.
A lot of the mayhem among the contestants on both seasons was usually instigated by the devious diva, New York. But that’s ok. She’s good, she’s bad and her beauty can be down right ugly. That’s why you have to love New York. After all the fussing and fighting and Flav breaking her heart twice she couldn’t give up on finding the one.
New York survived the trials of love warfare, passion, vulnerability, treachery and rejection scoring her own show, I Love New York, where she was the queen looking for her king. On season one, Tango (Patrick S. Hunter) and Chance (Kamal Givens) proved that they did not have enough royal blood running through their veins for her.
It was their loss, because businessman George “Tailor Made” Weisgerber, who competed for her love on the second season, is still hanging in there, proving he just might be New York’s knight in shining armor.
Weeks after the finale of I Love New York 2 the buzz about the couple’s fate has not ended, with rumors about break-ups, an engagement and a possible I Love New York 3. “It is a lot of pressure,” New York said. “Tailor Made is a great guy. We will always be friends, but we are having our problems, our ups and downs just like everybody else.
I like to think that we can remain a couple, but I don’t know. I won’t tell you everything,” she said with a giggle. Tailor Made, on the other hand, in Chicago to support New York’s thespian debut, believes their relationship will stand the test of time.
“I am very proud of her. She did an amazing job,” Weisgerber told the Defender about her performance in the play. The fashion entrepreneur explained that this is a wonderful time for the two of them. He wants to support New York in her quest to make her dreams come alive. “I think she is very talented, he said.
“I feel that in life, once your personal relationships are in order then you focus on career. I mean love is the most important thing, so we found true love. We can focus on our respective careers. I think that is exciting.” For those anticipating an I Love New York 3, “Absolutely not,” Weisgerber said. New York is now the actress.
She appeared in the big screen comedy First Sunday this year, and last year in an episode of Nip/Tuck playing herself. With a stage production under her belt and more projects and proposals coming her way, it is her time to shine.
“I have to shoot another project. I am doing another reality show for VH1. I don’t want to give too much away. It is going to be a half hour special that comes on once a week. It’s New York Loves Hollywood.” She will be auditioning for many parts in Tinsel Town and, of course, causing a commotion in her attempt to possibly get her star placed on the Hollywood walk of fame some day.
New York has managed to become a household name just by putting her heart on the line, and putting the “crazy” in the phrase “crazy in love.” She added she is just getting started. “No one has seen the last of New York,” she told the Defender.
