A jobs rally will be held Saturday at Rainbow/PUSH on the South Side to help those looking for employment.
Resumes will be collected beginning at 9 a.m. followed by the Rev. Jesse Jackson’s weekly Saturday address at PUSH headquarters, 930 E. 50th St.
The Rev. Jackson, founder of Rainbow/PUSH, will be joined by his son U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-2nd, Black clergy and community groups in hopes of collecting 15,000 resumes.
“Once collected, we will categorize them and personally deliver them to Gov. Pat Quinn,” the Rev. Jackson, told the Defender.
Ultimately, Jackson said a job bank would be created so job seekers could be matched up with potential employers beyond the state of Illinois.
For his part, Cong. Jackson added that even those who are employed but feeling “economic insecurity” should also come out.
“If you are underemployed or feel your job is not stable then we want to see you Saturday too,” Jackson Jr. said.
