Quinn to get Teamsters' endorsement

Gov. Pat Quinn is starting the Labor Day weekend by picking up the endorsement from a major union.

Gov. Pat Quinn is starting the Labor Day weekend by picking up the endorsement from a major union.

Teamsters Joint Council 25 represents more than 100,000 Illinois workers and is announcing its endorsement of Quinn on Friday. Joint Council President John Coli says the governor has been an advocate for working families and should be re-elected in 2010.

The endorsement comes as Quinn’s administration is embroiled in a dispute with another large labor union.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees represents state workers.

Quinn’s office on Thursday announced it will move forward with plans to lay off state workers after AFSCME refused to reopen its contract to consider concessions, such as unpaid furlough days and a pay freeze.
