Quinn ready to go if Blagojevich quits

Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn wants to reassure the public that the transition would be "seamless" if he moves up to replace embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Quinn on Monday said he’s talked to people inside and outside government for ideas and advice should he have to take over for Blagojevich, who’s facing federal corruption charges. As lawmakers move ahead with impeachment proceedings, Blagojevich has shown no sign he’ll leave office any time soon. He made a defiant public statement last week in which he vowed to fight the criminal case against him and hang on to his job. The people Quinn has heard from include Democratic New York Gov. David Paterson. A former lieutenant governor like Quinn, Paterson became governor when Eliot Spitzer resigned in a prostitution scandal earlier this year. AP ______ Copyright 2008 Associated Press.
