Gov. Pat Quinn marked the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks by honoring military families and commemorating the day as one of service and remembrance. Quinn says Illinois will never forget those who lost their lives that day. The governor joined the national call to make Sept. 11 a day of service by issuing an official proclamation. He encouraged Illinoisans to find ways to serve their communities as a way to honor the day. At a ceremony in downtown Chicago on Friday, Quinn was joined by families of people who’ve died while serving in the military. A memorial exhibit on display at the James R. Thompson Center pays tribute to the fallen service members with hand-drawn portraits of them. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
