Gov. Pat Quinn is keeping up the pressure on lawmakers to pass a new state budget. Quinn is scheduled to visit a Chicago community service agency Friday to talk about cuts his office says could cost low-income families child care services. Lawmakers ended their legislative session last weekend without agreeing on an income tax increase that Quinn said was needed to close an $11.6 billion deficit. Instead, they passed a budget that keeps government running. But some say it will force $7 billion in cuts if another alternative isn’t found. Quinn has been in negotiations with legislative leaders to come up with a new budget. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
