Gov. Pat Quinn has created a commission tasked with making recommendations about human services in Illinois. Quinn named Toni Irving and Ngoan Le as co-chairs of the Human Services Commission. Irving is the governor’s deputy chief of staff, while Le is vice president of programs at the Chicago Community Trust. Commission members will be drawn from both the public and private sectors and will hold a series of public hearings. They’ll be expected to make recommendations about publicly funded programs and services in a wide variety of areas, including child care, mental health and housing. The commission will submit an initial report to the governor and the General Assembly by June 30, 2010, with three other reports to follow. Copyright 2009 The Associated Press.
