Quinn appoints friend to head health board

Gov. Pat Quinn’s good friend Dr. Quentin Young promises to do all he can to ensure the scandal-plagued Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board is honest.

Gov. Pat Quinn’s good friend Dr. Quentin Young promises to do all he can to ensure the scandal-plagued Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board is honest. Quinn used his appointment power to name Young as chairman of the board that’s been linked to the scandal that helped bring down former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and led to his arrest. One former board member is in prison and so is former Blagojevich fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko, who was accused of scheming to get kickbacks based on board actions. Quinn said Friday that the 85-year-old Young has "unquestioned integrity." The Democratic governor says naming Young is one way to repair the damage of past scandals involving the board that regulates the building of health care facilities. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
