The Rev. Jesse Jackson, founder and president of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, held a media luncheon Friday at PUSH headquarters, 930 E. 50th St., to announce the civil rights organization’s upcoming annual conference.
Now in it’s 38th year, the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition and Citizen Education Fund’s conference will be held June 27-July 1 at the Hyatt McCormick Place, 2233 S. King Drive.
Jackson told the gathered media that the Black community is headed toward a “state of emergency” with murder rates that are “Baghdad numbers.”
Additionally, he said the conference will call attention to the organization’s campaign to reduce the student loan rate that is dogging some students.
