It’s Stellar time in the city, and Chicago is rolling out the red carpet–literally– for its nominees. Not only is the Windy City the “gospel capital of the world,” but it is also home to Central City Production, the producers of the most coveted award in gospel entertainment. “We are still the Grammy of gospel and artists recognize that,” said Chairman and CEO, Don Jackson. The annual event is a top notch production that attracts the likes of iconic gospel celebrities including Kirk Franklin, Cece Winans, Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, Marvin Sapp, Smokie Norful, Israel Houghton, Dorinda Clark Cole and Donald Lawrence. While the economic climate has forced most industries into bankruptcies or loss in profits, Jackson has continued undaunted by the failing markets.

“We have gone through other down turns, which didn’t have a stimulus plan, but it serves as a show that can up uplift you and cause people to look to God as their source,” Jackson said.

“This is our 24th annual show, we’ve come through this before. However, this was one of our best years and a lot has to do with these economic times. The people, they come back to God and the Stellar Awards offer inspiration, hope, encouragement and remind us that God is the source of our supply. We think this is the reason from the response that we have gotten from the program, artists, viewers and advertisers … we are very thankful this is one of our best shows,” he said.

“Speaking of hard times, Marvin Sapp’s song, "Never Would Have Made It," received eight Stellar Awards …Just take that song. It will bring you back and let you know you could never make it through without God,” Jackson said.

Not only is Chicago home to the Stellars, but also home to some of the absolute best artists in the country. To make sure the excitement remains, the media giant has joined forces with Inspiration 1390 /WGRB-AM/1390 to kick off the prestigious awards in the Chicago market.

According to Program Director, Sonya Blakey, the Stellar Awards Preview Gala is a collaboration, “to celebrate and embrace Chicago artists that were nominated for a Stellar Award this year.”
