The Hoskins family have had quite a load to bear this holiday season. The family’s youngest child is on a ventilator, bed bugs have invaded their Detroit home and the children’s mother is in the hospital. Fortunately, thanks to the non-profit organizations Got Donations and Humble Design, a Christmas miracle is headed this family’s way, My Fox Detroit reports.
Got Donations and Humble Design assists families transitioning out of homelessness by partnering them with case workers at local shelters who assist those who have undergone hardship. The Hoskins, a family of eight, recently moved into a home when their former residence became much too dangerous for 2-year-oldShayla (pictured with a sibling), who was born prematurely with hydrocephalus (excess fluid in the brain) and required to be on a ventilator. After power was knocked out of the Hoskins’ old home, the ventilator could only run for a few hours on its own before conking out, so the family was forced to relocate.
The new Hoskins’ residence was reportedly bare. The home just had a meager Christmas tree that stood undecorated and without any presents beneath it. Rob Rothenberg, a Got Donations mover, who spoke to My Fox Detroit said, “When I walked in that house that first thing I did was look … and I said, ‘Where’s the ornaments? Where’s the presents?’”
Fortunately, the bare bones home won’t remain in that state for too much longer. The children’s mother put in a call to My Fox Detroit and the station in turn scrambled up a network of do-gooders to assist the family in need. They contacted the DO Foundation; who reached out to the Auction Block; who then teamed up with Got Donations and Humble Designs to furnish the family’s home.

Not only is the Hoskins family receiving furniture, but Humble Design will also furnish them with tree ornaments, toys and even a new crib for baby Shayla.
