It seems like just yesterday when the Prairie View A&M program was the laughing stock of college football.

The Panthers set the college football record with 68 consecutive losses.

Now no one is laughing at Prairie View. Saturday, they defeated Alabama State, 27-6 to improve their record to 6-1 on the season.

Leading the way for Prairie View was senior quarterback Mark Spivey, who rushed for one touchdown and passed for two more.

“This was a great win for our ball club,” Prairie View head coach Henry Frazier III said. “We have a very talented group of young men, and they are in an all-around performance offensively and defensively.”

The win kept the Panthers in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division race with a 2-1 record.

In other Black college football action: Tuskegee just keeps rolling along.

The Golden Tigers defeated Morehouse, 42-27 at the 73rd annual “Skgee-House” Classic in Columbus, Ga.

The victory was the 22nd straight for Tuskegee, the number one team in Black college football.

It wasn’t an easy victory for the Golden Tigers, who trailed 14-7 at halftime.

Tuskegee, however, got it going in the second half taking a 21-14 lead in the third quarter when defensive back Justin Hannah returned an interception 22 yards for a touchdown, and linebacker David Newman returned a fumble 18 yards for a score.

“You’re not going to be ahead in every game,” Tuskegee head coach Willie Slater said. “It’s the mark of a good team when you can make adjustments at the half.”
