PEORIA, Ill. — Several central Illinois foster parents expressed fears they will be asked to accept less from the state while having to deal with more troubled youth if cuts must be made due to a $9 billion deficit in Illinois’ budget. Johanna Christiansen and other foster parents said Monday they don’t take in neglected children for the money. However, she pointed out foster children come into their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Christiansen told community and state officials in Peoria she and other foster parents aren’t looking for a funding increase but for what they’ve received in the past. Children’s Home and Aid executive Nancy Ronquillo have said payments to foster parents range from about $470 a month to about $1,370 for a child with mental or medical problems. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
