A day before the International Olympics Committee arrives in Chicago, members of the Fraternal Order of Police have planned a protest they will take to the mayor’s doorstep. The FOP will hold informational picketing April 2, 11 a.m., at City Hall to bring attention to ongoing contract negotiations between the union and the city, said Mark Donahue, president of FOP. “Our target is not the IOC but the city,” Donahue said. “We are not concerned about hurting the city’s chances at getting the Olympics here. Our concern is the 11,700 Chicago police officers we represent who have been working without a contract since June 2007.” Several other organizations, such as No Games Chicago and Communities for an Equitable Olympics, also plan to hold protests while the IOC is in town. ______ Copyright 2009 Chicago Defender.
