CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago man was fatally shot by police after he failed to drop the object he was carrying, which turned out to be a cell phone. Officials say 29-year-old Flint Farmer was running from a home in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood early Tuesday when officers identified themselves and ordered him to stop. Police say Farmer pulled an object from his pocket and aggressively approached an officer, who "fearing for his safety," shot Farmer. Emmett Farmer says his son was at the home of his girlfriend when they began fighting about their 2-year-old daughter. Police were originally responding to the violent domestic dispute. Emmett Farmer says he understands police may have been on edge because of the number of shootings in the neighborhood. However, he says they "overreacted" in killing his son.
