Two Chicago police officers were shot Thursday afternoon in the Roseland community on the city’s Far South Side while attempting to serve a narcotics warrant. The suspect is a 22-year-old Black male who is in police custody, said Roderick Drew, news affairs director for the Chicago Police Department. Drew declined to give the suspect’s name because the man has not yet been charged. “At 12:50 p.m., officers went to the suspect’s home in the 11200 block of South State Street to execute the warrant. Upon gaining entry to the apartment through a back door, officers approached the suspect’s bedroom door, which was closed, and the suspect allegedly started shooting through the door,” Drew told the Defender. “Both officers returned fire but did not strike the offender who wounded both officers in the leg.” The officers were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in south suburban Oak Lawn to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to the Chicago Fire Department. ______ Click here to see photo gallery.
