Parents of children slain by gun violence, along with the faith-based community, Mayor Richard M. Daley and several aldermen, made an impassioned plea for residents to turn in their firearms, no questions asked, during the Chicago Police Department’s fourth gun turn-in program this weekend. “When you take our children’s lives, you also take ours,” Pamela Bosley said at a recent news conference outside of a South Side church. Bosley’s son, Terrell, was gunned down two years ago as he loaded musical equipment into a car in his church’s parking lot. The event will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 25 locations throughout the city. In return for handing over a weapon, no questions asked, participants will receive a $100 Mastercard gift card for each weapon and $10 for each replica gun. “A gun lives forever. A human being doesn’t live forever,” Daley said at Bethlehem Star M. B. Church on 92nd Street and Cottage Grove Avenue. Police Supt. Jody Weis said, “One gun turned in is one less gun capable of harming innocent victims, destroying promising futures and shattering their dreams.” Last year, the gun buy-back netted 6,705 firearms, including 745 replica guns.
