CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Police say they have completed their investigation of a fatal train-on-car crash west of Detroit that claimed the lives of five young people. Police in Canton Township said Thursday 19-year-old Dan Broughton of Woodhaven "disregarded the flashing lights and gates at the railroad crossing" when he drove across tracks July 9 in the Wayne County community about 20 miles west of Detroit. His Ford Fusion was broadsided by a Chicago-bound Amtrak passenger train. All five people in the car were killed. Police say no alcohol was present in any of the victims and their fatal injuries were consistent with the crash. The investigation included witnesses, information from the Fusion’s "black box" and video from the train and a nearby business. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
