Pianist Stewart Goodyear soloist for CSO’s special concert series

Chicago Symphony Orchestra will feature Canadian concert pianist Stewart Goodyear as soloist for its Subscription Series Concert which begins Thursday.

Goodyear will perform Johann Nepomuk Hummel’s Piano Concerto in A-flat Major with guest conductor Nicolas McGegan.

Goodyear has performed with scores of major orchestras in the U.S. and around the world: Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Academy of St. Nartinin-theFields, Montreal Symphony and the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, as well as others.

He toured the United States with the Toronto Symphony led by Jukka-Pekka Saraste.

Goodyear has also made appearances at a number of festivals, including Caramoor, Santa Fe and Ravinia. The maestro pianist has written a commissioned composition for the Toronto Youth Symphony for its 25th anniversary, as well as for the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival.

A native of Toronto, Canada, Goodyear holds a master’s degree from the Juilliard School of Music in New York. He also studied at the Curtis Institute of Music with Leon Fleisher, Gary Graffman and Claude Frank.

Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) was an Austrian composer and virtuoso pianist whose music reflects the transition from the Classical to the Romantic musical era.

Goodyear will perform at CSO through Nov. 8.
