About two weeks after impeached governor Rod Blagojevich was ousted from office, Deputy Gov. Louanner Peters was also given her walking papers.

Blagojevich was removed from office Jan. 29.

Peters was appointed to the deputy’s post in December 2006 after serving as the former governor’s deputy chief of staff for nearly three years prior. She was the first Black woman to hold the deputy governor position.

Peters did not return the Defender’s calls seeking comment on her ouster, and Gov. Pat Quinn’s office declined to comment, citing personnel issues.

Peters was identified as “Senate Candidate 4” in the criminal complaint against Blagojevich.

In a wiretapped conversation, Blagojevich considered appointing Senate Candidate 4 to fill the Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama after he won the presidency. The former Democratic governor believed he could, “count on (Senate Candidate 4), if things got hot, to give (the Senate seat) up and let me parachute over there,” according to the criminal complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, which led to Blagojevich’s Dec. 9 arrest.
