People flood polls on last day of early voting

Illinoisans have been lining up all day to cast ballots on the last day of early voting.

Illinoisans have been lining up all day to cast ballots on the last day of early voting. Election officials estimate nearly 10,000 people voted in Chicago and suburban cities during the first hour polls were open. That’s on top of Wednesday’s statewide rush. Nearly 4,000 people flooded polling sites in Madison County, near St. Louis. Judges there reported running out of the paper used by voting machines. State election officials say numbers compiled Wednesday show more than 550,000 people have already voted early statewide. There were about 7.7 million active voters registered as of Monday. This is the first general election in Illinois where people have the option of voting early. AP ______ Copyright 2008 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
