by Lesley R. Chinn It was a like a “Heatwave” when legendary Motown R&B group Martha Reeves and the Vandellas recently performed before a massive audience at the 10th Annual Taste of Thornton Township in south suburban South Holland. Martha and the Vandellas took the audience back down memory lane with hits that included “Dancing in the Streets,” “Jimmy Mack,” and “Nowhere to Run.” Opening the stage for the legendary trio included Sounds of Santana, Tracy Adams and the New Orleans Beau, and The Big Easy Blues Band. Entertainment at the event was topped off by a special tribute performance to Michael Jackson along with an acrobatic performance by The Jesse White Tumblers.   Hosted by the Thornton Township Human Relations Committee, the Taste of Thornton Township allows families to step out to have fun in the summertime with live entertainment and amusement park rides while supporting local vendors on the parking grounds of its headquarters located at 333 E. 162nd St. Under the leadership of Supervisor Frank M. Zuccarelli, the Taste of Thornton Township is part of providing a social service safety net to 17 south suburban municipalities: Thornton, Burhnam, Calumet City, Dixmoor, Dolton, East Hazel Crest, Phoenix, South Holland, Harvey, Lansing, Glenwood, Posen, Homewood, Blue Island, Posen, Riverdale, and Hazel Crest.
