CHICAGO (AP) — Federal prosecutors are asking for information related to a troubled anti-violence program started by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn.
Brad Hahn, spokesman for the Illinois comptroller, said Thursday that the U.S. Justice Department called the comptroller’s office in March to ask for details about the 2010 program that’s also the subject of a county state’s attorney probe and a scathing state audit alleging mismanagement.
Quinn’s office says it hasn’t been contacted but supports the investigation.
The details of what federal officials are seeking haven’t been made public.
The issue has bubbled into Quinn’s re-election campaign.
The Chicago Democrat faces a tough challenge from Republican businessman Bruce Rauner (ROW’-nur).
Illinois’ governor’s office has seen federal probes before. Quinn’s predecessors, Rod Blagojevich and George Ryan, were both convicted on corruption charges and imprisoned.
