Authorities say they have confirmed Cook County Jail’s first case of swine flu in a prisoner. The case was confirmed Wednesday in a 35-year-old man from Chicago, who was jailed Saturday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Jail officials moved the man to an isolation unit at Cermak Hospital after he started showing flu symptoms on Sunday. The other prisoners in his division will be quarantined until Thursday. So far, no one else in the section has showed flu-like symptoms. Both workers and prisoners are taking precautions, including wearing face masks. Authorities say the prisoner does not have a life-threatening case of swine flu and will return to jail on Sunday. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
