Candidate for the Illinois 1st Congressional District, Steve Dejoie, believes his experience as a banking professional and entrepreneur makes him the best candidate for the seat held by Rep. Bobby Rush for the last 30 years. He is the former owner of DeJoie’s Bistro and currently works as an engagement consultant for Seaway and Sawa Financial Services providing homeownership education and real estate investment in the underserved communities.
He is also working on the development of the Black Firefighter memorial project. Steve Dejoie believes that the 1st District Congressional Office should be more initiative-taking in engaging with the community, businesses, and faith-based organizations. He says the most pressing issue facing Black people in the district are public safety, youth mentoring, and mental health.
