DES MOINES, Iowa — An Ohio woman was stopped twice and searched for drugs while traveling through Iowa. She has filed a federal lawsuit claiming the stops were racially motivated. Jeanne Jackson, who is Black, filed the lawsuit against the Dallas County sheriff’s office and the Iowa State Patrol. The officials named are white. Her vehicle was stopped on Interstate 80 in Dallas County and by a state trooper in Scott County a few hours later. No drugs were found. Jackson claims she had to be treated for anxiety and heart problems after each stop on April 4, 2007. The lawsuit says a Dallas County authority told the state patrol Jackson had faked a heart attack and should be detained if found.
