Officials: Learn risk factors of ovarian cancer

State health officials say ovarian cancer can be difficult to detect, so it’s important to be aware of the risk factors.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — State health officials say ovarian cancer can be difficult to detect, so it’s important to be aware of the risk factors. For women the factors include age, since most ovarian cancers happen after menopause, and family history. September is prostate and ovarian cancer awareness month. Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Damon Arnold says men and women should learn the risk factors of both cancers. Arnold is a prostate cancer survivor. Prostate cancer is the second most common type of cancer in American men and it’s the second leading cause of cancer death in men. The risk factors include age. The chance of being diagnosed with prostate cancer increases with age, especially after 50. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press.
