Obama congratulates former chief of staff

Congratulations have gone out from the White House to Chicago’s mayor-elect.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Congratulations have gone out from the White House to Chicago’s mayor-elect.

President Barack Obama has sent his good wishes to Rahm Emanuel within hours of his former chief of staff’s victory over five rivals.

The president said in a statement that Emanuel’s victory was well-deserved. He said he couldn’t be prouder of his fellow Chicagoan and friend.

Emanuel served as White House chief of staff from the start of Obama’s administration. He resigned in October 2010 to run for mayor.
