RIVERHEAD, N.Y.— A Long Island man convicted of sexually abusing three young girls has been sentenced to 35 years in prison. Thomas Green was known in his Selden neighborhood as "Grandpa." The 62-year-old was convicted last year of sodomy, attempted sodomy and sexual abuse. He was acquitted of abusing two other girls. Suffolk County Court Judge Barbara Kahn in Riverhead sentenced Green to terms of 20 years, 10 years and 5 years, all to run consecutively. Prosecutors say some victims were younger than 11 when they were abused between 1998 and 2003. One victim testified at Green’s 2008 trial that he molested her while they went for ice cream during the summer of 2003. Green was acquitted in 2004 of abusing his girlfriend’s daughter. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
