Ask Bill de Blasio what he thinks of the media in his home town and chances are the answer may include some unkind words.
According to reports, the New York mayor is blaming the New York media for the ouster of Rachel Noerdlinger, one of his top advisors. Noerdlinger’s dismissal came amid a summer filled with news about her live-in relationship with her son Khari, a convicted murderer and former cocaine trafficker.
On Monday, Noerdlinger announced that she was taking an unpaid leave of absence “to spend more time with my son,” the New York Post reports. Khari was named in a report, which claimed that Noerdlinger committed possible fraud when she applied for residency in New Jersey so she could care for her son.
“I can handle criticism and scrutiny of me, even when it’s mean-spirited,” Noerdlinger said in a statement. “But increasingly, my son has been subjected to attacks that have nothing to do with the public interest, and everything to do with derailing this administration.”
The Post noted claims made by Noerdlinger that 17-year-old Khari was involved in 2 car accidents, despite being active on his high school football team at the time when his mother claimed he was sidelined by injuries.
“The hypocrisy is stunning,” a writer for the Post stated.
De Blasio fired back at critics at an unrelated news conference as he blasted the NY media for conducting what he considered to be a communist hunt on Noerdlinger.
“We’ve seen this throughout the history of this country,” de Blasio said.
