SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Department on Aging is taking nominations for the "Senior Hall of Fame" awards. The awards will go to seniors age 65 or older. The honors will be presented later in the year in a ceremony in Springfield. To be eligible, nominees must be a current or former Illinois resident. Officials say posthumous nominees are also considered. The nominations are due next week. Seventy-nine people have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since 1994, when state lawmakers established the honor. The department’s director Charles Johnson says there’s no shortage of older adults who’ve made remarkable accomplishments. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
