The one-year anniversary of the disappearance of a now 31-year-old wife and mother of three approaches with no inkling of how she vanished after leaving her home last October to walk to a convenience store nearly a mile away from her home.
Latasha Nevitt was reported missing Oct. 15, 2011, a few days after her husband said she failed to return home from a trip to the store near their home on West 107th Street.
She left the home after 8 p.m. to go the store on West 112th St., according to her husband Isaac Nevitt. When she didn’t respond to a text message nor a phone call from him, he began to worry, he said.
Brenda Morgan, Latasha Nevitt’s mother, said it’s out of character for her daughter to leave without notice, especially leaving her children behind.
“That’s not who my daughter is. She wouldn’t leave her children,” Morgan told the Defender.
Chicago police said leads have come in over the past year, but nothing panned out.
A vigil is planned later this month to mark the anniversary of her disappearance, Morgan said.
“It’s just been hard. She’s been gone almost a year. It’s just hard not knowing where she is,” she said with a sigh.
Nevitt’s case has been featured on A&E’s “First 48: Missing Persons.”
