MOLINE, Ill. — Western Illinois University has officially launched its new engineering-degree program. The university starts offering a bachelor of science in engineering this fall at the Caxton Building on the Quad Cities 60th Street campus. The program’s home will later move to the nearby Riverfront Campus. Earlier this year, WIU received gifts totaling $1 million for the new program. The John Deere Foundation gave $500,000 and The Moline Foundation gave another $500,000. The money went partly to help lease space and buy equipment. The engineering program has also received enthusiastic backing from the community at large. The city of Moline and the Quad Cities Illinois Chamber of Commerce have been among its most vocal supporters. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
