Preparing children and parents for college may look easy, but many often find it more exhaustive than they thought. There’s more to it than filling out college applications and buying stuff for the dorm room, says the authors of a new book that aims to prepare college-ready students for life after high school. Tom Joyner Presents How to Prepare for College details how important it is for parents and children to be on the same page while on the road to post-secondary education. The book, written by Thomas and William LaVeist, in partnership with Amber Communications Group, Inc. and the Tom Joyner Foundation, Inc., debuts Feb. 16. Yvonne Rose of Amber Books said Joyner’s commitment to helping students stay in school made it too easy to partner with his foundation on this venture. “We are delighted with the opportunity,” Rose said. Joyner, a nationally syndicated radio host, provided the book’s foreword. “What I like about this book is that it shows you the steps you need to take to get into college, and it applies to everyone. Everything from raising a college-bound student to life after college is covered. Whether you’re a child in elementary school or an adult in the workforce considering enrolling in a college or university, this book has something you can use,” his foreword stated. His foundation provides financial assistance to students enrolled in Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
