Creative entrepreneur and owner of Justice of the Pies Chef Maya-Camile Broussard announced the second stop of her cookbook tour will be at the University of Chicago on October 27. The cookbook titled “Justice of the Pies: Sweet and Savory Pies, Quiches, and Tarts plus Inspirational Stories from Exceptional People” is Chef Maya-Camille’s first published work for Justice of the Pies. Chartwells Higher Education and UChicago Dining will host a book signing from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Greenline Performing Arts Center.
The new cookbook tells the story of those fighting for social change alongside recipes inspired by their activism. Social justice and equality are always at the core of the Justice of the Pies brand. Chef Maya-Camile created the bakery to honor her late father, a criminal defense attorney and avid pie-lover. The cookbook shares over 85 recipes, which include signature dishes like her Salted Caramel Peach Pie and Fig + Pig Quiche.
Chef Maya-Camile is no stranger to Chartwells and the University of Chicago. Several retail locations across campus offer her sweet and savory pies and quiches. Over the past three years, she has collaborated with Chartwells on various projects like their award-winning JOY-FUL campaign. The campaign is a part of Chartwells Higher Education’s aim to foster a sense of campus community through uplifting moments of joy centered around food.
