EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — The widow of a southwestern Illinois man who died when a bonfire ignited the home where he was sleeping has filed a lawsuit. Bobbie Dexheimer filed the wrongful-death lawsuit in Madison County in last November’s death of 37-year-old David Dexheimer of Pontoon Beach. The lawsuit claims that David Dexheimer was a guest at Jacob Atchley’s home on Nov. 2 when Atchley started a bonfire near the house. The widow alleges that Dexheimer was sleeping inside and died when the bonfire ignited the house. A coroner’s jury in January ruled the death an accident after learning that Dexheimer was drunk at the time. The lawsuit seeks at least $50,000 in damages. Atchley doesn’t have a listed home telephone number. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
