Negro League legends to make appearances at Jewel Food Store

Patrons of Jewel Food Store on 87th Street, just west of the Dan Ryan Expressway, will be treated to several appearances this weekend by three Negro League players.

Patrons of Jewel Food Store on 87th Street, just west of the Dan Ryan Expressway, will be treated to several appearances this weekend by three Negro League players. Hank “Baby” Presswood, Johnny “Lefty” Washington and Nathan “Sonny” Weston will greet fans Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and also next weekend. Presswood, 87, played two years with the Cleveland Buckeyes and two years with the Kansas City Monarchs. He was recently “drafted” by the Chicago White Sox. Washington, 78, played for the Chicago American Giants and later for the Houston/New Orleans Eagles. Weston, 78, also played for the Chicago American Giants.
