Over the fourth of July holiday weekend, Five young men from the Obama Foundation’s My Brother’s Keeper Alliance joined Turner Sports, for its sports Emmy-nominated premier live golf event series, Capital One’s The Match, in Montana. Capital One’s The Match, is a sports Emmy-nominated premier live golf event series held at the Reserve at Moonlight Basin in Montana at Jack Nicklaus Golf Course. The event focused on supporting communities and included donations to Feeding America and other charities.
The event featured top athletes, including Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Phil Mickelson. The young men had a one of a kind opportunity to shadow Turner experts, getting hands-on experience in public relations, photography, talent relations, and production, among other roles.
- Da’Jhonny Guilty: A recent graduate from Urban Prep Academy in Englewood, Da’Jhonny will be attending Jackson State University this fall, as the first person in his family to attend college. Da’Jhonny knows more than 50 people who have been shot and killed and hopes to make a difference in his community to prevent these crimes from happening.
- Baltacesar Salinas: Baltacesar has participated in La Villita Basketball with New Life Centers for over three years. He believes the program provides a safe place for the youth in my community and says the program has nourished the younger generation to become the future of tomorrow. Baltacesar will be the first person in his family to attend college, heading to University of Illinois this fall.
- Thaddeus Jones Jr.: An incoming sophomore at Columbia College in Chicago. Thaddeus was a mentee in the Champs Male Mentoring program and is now a mentor, helping other young men pursue their passions. Thaddeus recently lost a friend to gun violence and being able to have a strong support system through Champs has helped him tremendously.
My Brother’s Keeper launched in 2014 in the Obama White House to address persistent opportunity gaps facing boys and young men of color. My Brother’s Keeper Alliance focuses on creating safe and encouraging communities for boys and young men of color to feel valued and create pathways to opportunity.
