CHICAGO – This summer, 10-time Grammy award-winning Chaka Khan returns to her Windy City roots to support Music is My 1st Love, an outreach program that currently spotlights live musical performances as a platform to highlight social causes in different communities around the Chicagoland area.
Chaka Khan will make her headlining debut on Saturday, Aug.9 at 8 p.m. at The Chicago Theatre, 175 N. State Street. The event will benefit the Red Pump Project, which is a nonprofit organization that raises awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls. The Red Pump Project ensures that women are empowered with knowledge about HIV/AIDS and the issues surrounding it.
An International music icon and an American institution, Chaka Khan is a songwriter, producer, author, actor, philanthropist, entrepreneur and activist, who has the rare ability to sing in eight music genres. Khan has released 22 albums and racked up 10 #1 Billboard magazine charted songs, seven RIAA certified gold singles and 10 RIAA certified gold and platinum albums. Chaka’s recorded music has produced more than 2,000 catalogue song placements. She is the recipient of numerous awards for her extraordinary achievements in music, entertainment and charity.
Chaka Khan will perform a special exclusive concert as she takes the stage for the first time at the legendary Chicago Theatre. Khan will sing from her treasure trove of hit music, including the best sellers: “Ain’t Nobody,” “Through the Fire,” “Do You Love What You Feel”?, and “I’m Every Woman.” Chaka will be joined by some of the city’s hottest rising stars, including R&B singer Syleena Johnson. The program will be hosted by Chicago comedian Damon Williams and ABC 7’s Val Warner of Windy City Live.
