LAS VEGAS — During a comprehensive day-long interview with ESPN boxing superstar Floyd “Money” Mayweather told “First Take’s” Stephen A. Smith that he felt that he had replaced the venerated Muhammad Ali as the greatest.
That bodacious proclamation did not go over well with Ali’s legion of fans nor with sports pundits. Mayweather, however, remains undeterred that he now owns the title of “The Greatest of All Time.”
This is what he told Smith:
“No one can ever brainwash me to make me believe that Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali was better than me,” Mayweather said at the time. “No one could ever brainwash me and tell me that.”
George Foreman, who fought Ali in the legendary “Rumble in the Jungle” in 1974, told reporters his thoughts on Floyd’s comments and he surprisingly agreed with Floyd:
“Pound for pound, Floyd is better than me and Muhammad Ali ever were,” he said. “This is a better generation by far,” Foreman said. “They’re smarter, they’re stronger, they’re overall just better fighters.”
Muhammad on the other hand does not agree with Mayweather or Foreman and released a statement via his Twitter telling Mayweather to not forget who the legend is. Check out the tweet below:
