First lady Michelle Obama will travel to Copenhagen in support of Chicago’s bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. The White House made the announcement Friday. Mrs. Obama will attend the International Olympic Committee meeting on Oct. 2, where the host of the 2016 Games will be chosen from among the remaining four candidate cities: Chicago — the Obamas’ hometown — Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo. The White House says President Barack Obama has told Olympic officials that the health care debate will keep him in Washington. But he pledged to continue to work to support Chicago’s bid. The Obamas will hold an event with Olympic athletes at the White House on Wednesday. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
