A Chicago woman has pleaded guilty to aggravated domestic violence and aggravated battery charges for trying to kill her newborn son by tying him up in a trash bag. Cook County state’s attorney spokesman Andy Conklin said Wednesday Alsina Shelton had been charged with one count of attempted murder. At the time charges were filed against Shelton last year, prosecutors said the then 23-year-old woman feared her mother would throw her out for having a baby. After giving birth, Shelton allegedly took a plastic bag from the kitchen and placed the baby in it. Prosecutors say Shelton told investigators she thought it would take about 10 minutes for the newborn to die. Instead, paramedics sent to the home found the boy and revived him en route to a hospital. Conklin said Shelton, who remains in custody, will be sentenced November 13.
