CALUMET PARK, Ill. (AP) — First-degree murder charges have been filed against a suburban Chicago woman in connection with the 2011 death of her toddler son.

Marles Blackman of Midlothian was arrested Wednesday in Calumet Park for the death of Lavandis Hudson.

Authorities say the child was pronounced dead in July 2011 at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. An autopsy determined the 2-year-old died of multiple blunt force trauma injuries due to child abuse.

Police say the 37-year-old Blackman called 911 for emergency medical personnel, who were told she was cooking dinner when she heard a thump and found her son unresponsive on the floor.

Authorities say a homicide investigation began after the Cook County medical examiner reported the autopsy results.
