CHICAGO (AP) — Good news for the sick. A study by the University of Illinois at Chicago says most surveyed hospitals meet national guidelines for preventing a drug-resistant bacterial infection.
A statement released Wednesday said researchers sent surveys to more than 260 acute-care hospitals asking about their policies and practices on a drug-resistant staph bacteria called MRSA. UIC says MRSA is the leading cause of infections from hospitals.
More than 100 hospitals responded to the 61-question survey.
UIC says nearly all survey respondents practice hand hygiene, and 75 percent have practices that aim to reduce the risk of bacterial resistance.
All surveyed hospitals are members of Broadlane, a health care cost management company based in Dallas.
