SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — State health officials say about 3,400 cases of swine flu have been reported in Illinois, which is about 100 more than last week’s count. The Illinois Department of Public Health released updated swine flu numbers Friday. Since April, there have been 3,404 confirmed and probable cases of swine flu. A total of 17 people have died from the virus. Health officials say the rate of new swine flu cases is slowing, but people still need to take preventive measures and practice good hygiene. Illinois expects to receive about $11.5 million in federal grants to prepare for the seasonal and swine flu threat in the fall. The city of Chicago will get grants totaling nearly $3.3 million. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
