As the trial against William Balfour entered the second week, jurors heard more testimony of Balfour making repeated threats to kill the Hudson family.

Prosecutors said Balfour murdered Darnell Donerson (mother), Jason Hudson (brother) and Julian King (nephew) in October 2008 out of a jealous rage. Several witnesses said Balfour accused his then-wife Julia Hudson of cheating.

A juvenile witness said she heard Balfour tell his wife he’d kill her and her family if she called the police. Reginald Jones Sr., a neighbor of the Hudson’s who often did repairs to the Hudson home and other small jobs for Jason Hudson, said Hudson was “like a son” to him. Jones, who also bought drugs from Hudson, was also fond of 7-year-old Julian King.

Jones recalled a time when he called Julia Hudson “baby” in Balfour’s presence. The statement didn’t sit well with Balfour, he said. According to Jones, Balfour said he didn’t like “anyone calling my wife baby.”
